WEEK FIVE: COMPLETE HEELERZ.CA

This isn’t a post about what I did, but more a post about what I didn’t do. I knew a week would come when I didn’t complete a goal or task on my list. That week was this week.

My goal for week five was to finish heelerz.ca

A little bit about heelerz: It’s a lovely little company run by my Mom and Aunt with a focus on holistic healing for pets and their people. They specialize specifically in crystal healing and aromatherapy. Everything they sell is beautiful and handmade with tons of heart, using top quality products. Check out heelerz here.

They have some big goals for their business and I wanted to support them. In order to achieve these goals they needed to have a stronger, more cohesive sense of brand identity. In September 2015, I decided to help them out by giving them a bit of a brand overhaul that truly reflected the beauty of their business. This included an updated website, a new logo, an aligned sense of  what they saw for their business, and branded elements throughout their site just to name a few.

I had intended for it to take a specific period of time but life gets in the way and well, it’s taken much longer than I anticipated. Instead of working on it consistently, I work on it here and there, when I can. This is fine but it’s ended up meaning it’s been an extremely gradual process which wasn’t ideal.

They have a big show coming up in the end of February so I thought this was a perfect goal: have it done with lots of time to spare before their big show. I had a huge list of tasks to get through in order to complete their site. For the past few weeks I’ve been working at it so I thought it was totally doable. At this point a good portion of it is done but I still have about ¼  of it to do and I’ve left the most time consuming tasks for last. (Maybe I should have started with these…oops!

I think my fatal error was not putting enough time aside to work on their site. All my “computer” time has been spent working on my own site, writing, creating images, etc. I should have set aside specific, non-negotiable time blocks every day of week five to ensure I completed everything. I guess my lack of completion really comes down to a lack of planning.

Heelerz will get completed, it’s just a matter of when. My new goal is now the original goal, before their show at the end of February. I’m also heading to Calgary in April (where they’re located). While I’m there I plan to teach them about a few things to help transition the takeover of their site. Once these two actions are complete, heelerz will be good to go!

So again, week five: kind of a bust. But it’s OK. As I said in the beginning, I am mostly doing this for a learning experience. When you’re learning you’re bound to make “mistakes.” I’m actually a little proud I didn’t complete week five because you learn more from failure than you do from success. So, here’s my BIGGEST LEARNING from not completing week five:

If you fail to plan you’re planning to fail .

Basically, I need to get my butt in gear and make sure every week is well thought out before it starts in ensure success!

This may have been my first offense of not completing a week but I’m guessing it won’t be my last. It’s also very likely I will have weeks that I complete multiple goals. Either way, I promise I will continue to be authentic to the challenge and keep sharing whether I complete my task or not. No sugar coating allowed!
